Pamela Iden

August 2009

Dear Parent or Guardian:

I am Mrs. Iden your child's German or French Teacher.  Here is some information about me and my mission as a world language teacher.

First, I am a graduate of Hartland High School.  I completed four years of French here before choosing to major and minor in world languages at the University of Michigan-Flint.  In order to attain a higher level of proficiency and to truly experience the language and culture naturally, I lived and studied in France and Austria for three years.  In 1996, I completed my education certification at Oakland University.  In 2006, I completed my Master's Degree in the Art of Teaching with Marygrove College. I have taken other graduate level classes recently in a effort to keep my skills and practices up to date.

My goal is to teach your child practical, useful German or French for everyday communication and enjoyment. After the first year students should be able to get basic wants and needs met using the target language.  They should also be able to engage in simple conversation with a native speaker about themselves, their family members and their academic and leisure interests.  I use a variety of methods and activities to assist their grasp and retention of the language.

In addition to facilitating your child's learning of German or French, an important part of my mission is to help each student grow as an individual and as a member of a broader community.  Therefore, I set high standards regarding personal responsibility, respect for self and others, and each person's positive contribution to our classroom and school environment.

I hope that you will witness your child exhibiting skills learned in my classroom relating to both the language and the values presented.  Throughout the year please do not hesitate to contact me with your questions or concerns.  I can be reached at (810) 626-2200 ext. 2337 between 10:30 and 11:00 a.m. and 2:15 to 3:00p.m. or via e-mail pamiden@hartlandschools.us.  I look forward to meeting you in person during the Open House on September 16th or at Parent/Teacher Conferences.

Sincerely,

Pamela A. Iden

Voila ma famille!  Ich moechte meine Familie vorstellen! Here is my family!  I will

introduce each member to you and tell you a little about us.

I have been married to Chris Iden for 21 years.  He is an engineer.  He is a kind, hard working person.  He is a fabulous dad and husband.  He loves gardening.  He is great in some of the areas that I am not.  He can fix anything I break.  He is the long term planner and saver.  He is calm and reads the directions!  He lets me have my way -- most of the time.

My daughter Nathalie is 20.  Her special talent is playing the piano. She is currently a sophomore at MSU majoring in economics.  She is interested in politics and work in State Representative, Paul Scott's office at the capital this past summer.  She also likes to swim, play tennis and win arguments.  She loves her brothers.

My son Michael is 18.  He is a soccer and tennis fanatic.  He helped the Goodrich tennis team go to State's this past year for the 1st time in school history playing 2nd singles.  He is great with computers and gadgets. He loves to quote Seinfeld, The Simpsons , The Colbert Report, and the The Office.  He is a freshman this year at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in the Engineering program.

Our newest family member is Stephen.  He is almost 4 years old.  He is sweet and easy going.  He loves trains, trucks, dogs and balls of any kind.  He talks all the time.   He likes it when we read to him.  We adore him.

That leaves me.  I love God and my family.  I have five sisters, two brothers and lots of dear nieces and nephews.  My wonderful mom still lives in the district.  I love to teach German and French.  I love to run, play tennis, read, cook and help my kids do what they love to do.  I feel that I am truly blessed and want to share those blessings with others.
